My Oldest Daughter's Upcoming Wedding

My oldest daughter, Spring, will be marrying a wonderful young man named Karl on August 24.  Of course, I am doing the ceremony music, but also making the wedding dress and groom's shirt.  First trial run of wedding dress did not turn out well, but have it all in hand now, and will even manage to put together the 3 flower girl dresses, since it is so hard to find things in stores.  I even found my daughter's shoes for her in Toronto, which involved much texting and sending pictures via e-mail.  Thank goodness the store staff did not mind my taking pictures of the merchandise!

The processional song is going to be Fields of Gold, written by Sting, and the signing of the register music and processional are songs I have written.  For the signing of the register, I was inspired by their wedding invitation.  The processional song is one I wrote many years ago, but, one day I was playing through my book of old original songs, and this just stood out as so fitting with Fields of Gold to round out the ceremony.

I am posting the words to both.  I played the songs for them a few days ago, and the groom even began to have tears in his eyes, which, of course, gave me a lump in my throat.

Signing of Register:

May Your Love See You Through

As we come together
For this celebration of love
With friends and family smiling
As the sun shines from above
With words you seal your vows
With hope and faith you walk
Forward from this moment
On a journey filled with love

May your love see you through
All the happiness and sorrow
Look into each other's hearts for strength
Today and in all of your tomorrows

May all good things be yours
May love shine on your journey
Cherish every moment
Of deepest unity
Giving to each other
The best of all you'll be
With trust and understanding
And love-filled harmony

May your love see you through
All the happiness and sorrow
Look into each other's hearts for strength
Today and in all of your tomorrows

Recessional

In the Same Grass

Now, let me tell you
That it's love that makes us such
An ancient tale gone searching
For those who have not much
Oh, yes, we lie in the same grass
Oh, yes, we lie in the same grass
Oh, yes, we lie in the same grass
As many who have lain here before

Come, let me love you
And do not weep in the rain
I have no gold to give you
But, if we touch again
Oh, yes, we love in the same grass
Oh, yes, we love in the same grass
Oh, yes, we love in the same grass
As many who have loved here before

Though time passes on
Oh, do not look back sadly
Eyes of memory in the sun
Shadows dancing lightly
Oh, yes, we dance in the same grass
Oh, yes, we dance in the same grass
Oh, yes, we dance in the same grass
As many who have danced here before

Come, let me take you
Where sun and moon chance to meet
The field is growing greener
It waits for lovers' feet
Oh, yes, we walk in the same grass
Oh, yes, we walk in the same grass
Oh, yes, we walk in the same grass
As many who have walked here before

Rainy Wedding Day

I am playing harp at a wedding today that was supposed to be on the beach at a nearby resort.  However, it has been raining off and on most of the day, so far, so I think it will be inside.  The building is nice - windows all around and a stone fireplace.  It is a small, intimate wedding, so will be lovely, I am sure.

This morning I went to my job placement meeting, usually called "the cattle call" where jobs are taken in order of seniority.  This year, the Universe was definitely smiling on me and I got to keep the position I am in and which I enjoy the most.  After this year, as long as the position is there, it is mine.  It is such a relief, after many years of having a position, then having someone with more seniority take it, then having another, and so on, to now know that I have security in my position.

Things really do start working together for good when you believe and trust and stay positive.

Once again, it has been a while since I posted a blog.  I just seem to get so very busy.  I have a couple of new musical projects that I am working on, plus writing some music for my oldest daughter's wedding.  I applied for a Literacy Camp job through my school board last week and got a phone call today offering the position.  So, the first 3 weeks of July will be busy, but it is only mornings for Literacy Camp, and afternoons for music and designing and making a wedding dress.

I think these words will become the song for when the register is signed at the wedding.  I don't even have a title yet, but maybe, May Your Love See You Through.  It will come in time.

May all good things be yours
May love shine on your journey
Cherish every moment
Of deepest unity

Giving to each other
The best of all you'll be
With trust and understanding
And love-filled harmony

Maybe your love see you through
All the happiness and sorrow
Look into each others hearts
Today and in all of your tomorrows.

So grateful for each new day and for the awesomeness of life.  Happiness is found along the way, not at the end of the road.

Fly in My Dreams

It's hard to believe I haven't posted anything since last year!  I know I got terribly busy, but that is really not a good excuse.  In February, an amazing person and friend died and I wrote a song for his funeral.  After being in a vehicle accident a few years ago and ending up quadriplegic, he came back to form a band and do inspirational shows.  Right about the same time, I agreed to be musical director for a local production of Godspell.  So, yes, busy, but still no excuse for not blogging.  I will be getting back to it on a regular basis.

I was inspired by some words another friend wrote about Christopher's death, and asked if I could form his ideas into song lyrics.  He said, yes, and I wrote this song in honour of my friend, Christopher MacKay, who inspired us all to be all that we can possibly be.

Fly in My Dreams

Your strength will bear me up
Your light will shine forever
Your hope will lift my heart
It is your joy I will remember

So, fly up high to the moon
Let the evening breeze catch your wings
Fly up high to the moon
Fly forever in my dreams

You touched the lives of all you knew
With grace and hope and dignity
And now in peace you gently soar
Unfettered in eternity

So, fly up high to the moon
Let the evening breeze catch your wings
Fly up high to the moon
Fly forever in my dreams

You heard a song within your soul
The music took you into heaven
Your spirit overcame your form
And gave you wings to fly to freedom

So, fly up high to the moon
Let the evening breeze catch your wings
Fly up high to the moon
Fly forever in my dreams

Christopher, you'll fly forever in our dreams.

(Thank you, Pat Larkin and Christopher MacKay for the inspiration for this song.)
