Time Goes By

How often we say that time is flying by or time is dragging.  Time can do neither, but our perceptions of how long something is changes.  Right now it is nearing the end of October and Halloween.  I am busy working on my Christmas Show, not a cantata, this year, but sort of a musical play with narration.  I have 5 of the songs completed and transcribed, with the rest still in rough draft from, but it is all coming together nicely.  I thought I would share the lyrics to one of the songs, and here it is.

The Darkness Has Been Conquered

When the sun's light begins to grow again
And the darkness is transformed,
The end of winter's hunger begins
And our hearts with love are warmed.
Like the sun God's love is constant
And all around us brightly shines,
Our hope lives in its presence,
We go forward in its light.
The darkness has been conquered
By a love so rich and free,
When we share that love with others
We receive abundantly.

When the daytime hours grow longer
And the night grows shorter too,
The hope of new life grows stronger
As our hearts become transformed.
Like the sun God's love is constant
And all around us brightly shines,
Our hope lives in its presence,
We go forward in its light.
The darkness has been conquered
By a love so rich and free,
When we share that love with others
We receive abundantly.

Summer

This summer, as does every summer, has gone by so quickly.  It is my very favourite time of year.  I love the heat and the sun and the means to go to nearby beautiful beaches.  This has been an especially wonderful summer with my journey on the 28 Days of Gratitude Practice as outlined in the book, The Magic, by Rhonda Byrne.

The Gratitude Practice has changed my life and I count my blessings every day.  I have even learned to turn mistakes and obstacles into blessings.  It's all in how you look at life.  I am so very grateful and blessed to be alive at this particular time in the world.  There really is magic all around.

I love my life, I love my family, I love my friends, I love my world,  I love everything that I have been given.  Life is awesome and amazing.

Thank you for this wonderful life!

Let Every Word I Speak

When I posted "Angels are among us every day" on my facebook status, a good friend who has gone through some really tough times messaged me to say that I am one of those angels.  I think, maybe, we all are at some point.  It made me think of how I need to always think positively.  That does not mean not feeling pain or being down; it just means knowing there is always a light at the end of the tunnel

Let Every Word I Speak

Let every word I speak be of love and understanding
May I never criticize when I don't know the path you walk
Let my heart be kind and loving, let my hands be warm and giving
May I always see that everyone lives in the heart of God

Every morning the sun rises, even though the clouds may hid it
And sometimes we can smile, even thought there's pain inside
The love of God shines on us eve though there my be darkness
And no matter where we go, from this love we cannot hide

Let every word I speak be of love and understanding
May I never criticize when I don't know the path you walk
Let my heart be kind and loving, let my hands be warm and giving
May I always see that everyone lives in the heart of God

Sometimes I will stumbe on the rocks that line my way
Sometimes I will grumble when the world does not seem fair
But I pick myself up from the ground and see a bright new day
With faith and hope and love as I seek a better way

Let every word I speak be of love and understanding
May I never criticize when I don't know the path you walk
Let my heart be kind and loving, let my hands be warm and giving
May I always see that everyone lives in the heart of God

Angels Are Among Us Every Day

When you've lost your way
You're scared and you're alone
In troubled times
At the dark end of the road
Someone comes along
Could be a stranger or a friend
To light your way with hope
And all the broken pieces mend

Have you met your angel today
To help and guide you on your way?
Angels are among us every day.

To move the earth and sea
And calm the raging storm
In cold and fear
Arms to keep you safe and warm
Someone comes along
Could be a stranger or a friend
To light your way with hope
And all the broken pieces mend

Have you met your angel today
To help and guide you on your way?
Angels are among us every day.

Give protection
Love and affection
Life can't break me
Love won't forsake me

In the most unlikely places
They're always waiting for us

Angels are among us every day

Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans.

I am learning how true that statement of John Lennon's was.  Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.  I went back to work at a new school after Easter, and it has been going well.  I have added new music students to my after school roster, too.  I am trying to introduce new music to my choir, learn songs to perform with a friend, and rebuild my own repertoire.
My repertoire is so varied that it is really hard to decide what direction to go in, so I am building songs in a variety of categories.
My choir sang Let It Be for Mother's Day, and then it was requested that we also do Hey Jude for Father's Day - requested by a father/grandfather.  On the last Sunday in June, they are doing All You Need is Love, and back-up for me on One Love.  It's been a growing experience for all of us, and I have tried to incorporate both old and new.
I have learned in the past few weeks, what with birthdays and Mother's Day, just how much my daughters love and look up to me.  Those are big shoes to fill.  I am a very lucky mom with two absolutely beautiful daughters, both inside and out.
Life is good.

Joy and Sorrow

When you are joyous, look in to your heart
And you will see that your joy has come from sorrow,
When you are sorrowful, look ahead and see
That there always will be joy in some tomorrow.

Sorrow digs deep into your soul
So you can fill it up with laughter,
And when your heart is bleeding,
It is bleeding both for pain and joy.

Take the mask off your sorrow;
Let the laughter bubble up from your well.
Never wish to be so hollow
That your empty heart cannot feel.

Sorrow digs deep into your soul
So you can fill it up with laughter,
And when your heart is bleeding,
It is bleeding both for pain and joy.

Love gathers strength with patience,
Love grows in spite of obstacles,
Love brings the warmth of fire in winter,
Love comes to life in the spring,
Love feels the gentle breeze of summer,
Love gathers fruit in autumn's glow,
When love comes, you must go where it leads,
Though you bleed for the pain and joy.

Sorrow digs deep into your soul
So you can fill it up with laughter,
And when your heart is bleeding,
It is bleeding both for pain and joy.

Today's Message from The Secret Scrolls

"Joy attracts more joy. Happiness attracts more happiness. Peace attracts more peace. Gratitude attracts more gratitude. Kindness attracts more kindness. Love attracts more love."

It's an amazing idea, and I am learning every day to let my good feelings change my life. How about you?

Just Thinking

I have had to take some to to re-think and re-evaluate what I want in life. It's funny how, sometimes, circumstances force you to re-think. I am glad to have the opportunity to do this right now and take some much needed time for myself. Sometimes we can get so busy with things in life, that we don't take time for the things that really matter.

My oldest daughter became engaged on New Year's Eve, so a wedding for the summer of 2013 is in the planning stages. It's going to be a "hippy" style wedding - an era my daughter and her partner are totally in love with and think is so romantic and inspiring. I guess the stories of that era are inspiring to those who have come after. We were the original health conscious, save the earth, etc. group. Then, again, were we? Perhaps we need to look at others in history who also blazed the way.

I was listening to an old Carpenter's song on youtube last night and I realized that, despite a lot of my negativity and sadness over the years, that this line from a song means so much to me. "I believe in happy endings, though I've only known a few." I wonder, though, if those happy endings were really happy beginnings.

Wish You Were Here

I wrote this many years ago, but as I was going through old notes and scribblings, I came across it and realized that it is still relevant in my life. The characters have changed over the years, but the basic story and feelings remain.

Wish You Were Here

I got quietly drunk with an old friend of spirit
As evening slipped into shadows and starlight,
We were still just talking of life
When dawn stealthily crept up with sunlight,
I wish you had been here,
I wish you had been here,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.

I remember the night that we met, in a moment
I knew I was falling in love with you, then,
Letting go was harder this time,
I can't understand just how it happened,
I wish you were here, now,
I wish you were here, now,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.

I was thinking last night how all of my life has been
A ready-made tale of a ship in the night,
If you are just one more romance,
I don't think I can turn off this bright light,
I wish you could be here,
I wish you could be here,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.

I've been wondering lately where all of my dreams went,
A dusty lane hiding footprints of sad hearts,
All we have are moments in time,
The rest of our lives might go on apart,
I wish you were here, now,
I wish you were here, now,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.
