I wrote this many years ago, but as I was going through old notes and scribblings, I came across it and realized that it is still relevant in my life. The characters have changed over the years, but the basic story and feelings remain.
Wish You Were Here
I got quietly drunk with an old friend of spirit
As evening slipped into shadows and starlight,
We were still just talking of life
When dawn stealthily crept up with sunlight,
I wish you had been here,
I wish you had been here,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.
I remember the night that we met, in a moment
I knew I was falling in love with you, then,
Letting go was harder this time,
I can't understand just how it happened,
I wish you were here, now,
I wish you were here, now,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.
I was thinking last night how all of my life has been
A ready-made tale of a ship in the night,
If you are just one more romance,
I don't think I can turn off this bright light,
I wish you could be here,
I wish you could be here,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.
I've been wondering lately where all of my dreams went,
A dusty lane hiding footprints of sad hearts,
All we have are moments in time,
The rest of our lives might go on apart,
I wish you were here, now,
I wish you were here, now,
But, isn't it funny?
Isn't it funny
Where life leads you.
